Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport
Anchorage’s recently updated airport is the main air gateway into Alaska, receiving around five million passengers a year. In addition to connections with many US airports via major US carriers, the two-terminal facility offers inter-state Alaska Airlines flights to other key Alaskan airports such as Fairbanks, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Juneau and Wrangell. The most popular routes are to Seattle, Fairbanks and Minneapolis. Airport amenities are comprehensive and include shopping, car rental and eateries. The South Terminal caters to domestic flights while the North Terminal handles international routes including seasonal flights to Frankfurt, Seoul and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Bus and shuttle services are available between the terminals and the car rental facility, while the PeopleMover bus operates every 30 minutes between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Some Anchorage hotels offer their guests complimentary pick ups so check with your accommodation for the best means of transportation to your onward destination. Car rental through major international chains such as Avis, Budget and National is available at the facility near the South Terminal. Both terminals have Checker Cab and Yellow Cab taxis waiting to take passengers into Anchorage, a short 20-minute ride.
Fairbanks International Airport
Served by Alaska Airlines year-round, Fairbanks’ newly rebuilt airport offers limited passenger services, including seasonal flights to other US locations via Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and Frontier Airlines. Weekly summer connections to Frankfurt, Germany are also offered. The most popular routes here are to Anchorage, Seattle and Minneapolis, with the airport serving around 130,000 passengers each year.
Ground transportation at Fairbanks’ airport includes Alaska King Cab and Moose Cab taxis, Airlink shuttle services and car hire through Dollar, Avis and National, among other leading firms.
