West Virginia offers visitors a wealth of shopping opportunities, although it is the specialty shops and local art shops that really excel. Lewisburg is known for its wide selection of specialty stores, including book shops, plant shops, and antique shops, as well as outfitter shops for those needing some gear before heading into the mountains. Tamarack in Beckley is the best place to search for handmade crafts and souvenirs. It also boasts a 178-seat theater that offers live music, theatre, and dance performances. The Milton Flea Market is the largest in the state, open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Like all other American destinations, there is no shortage of shopping malls throughout West Virginia. Charleston’s Southridge has a total of four shopping centers on one very large piece of land, offering visitors discount stores, chain shops, and fast-food restaurants. Morgantown also has its fair share of malls, all of which house big name label chains, restaurants, and fast-food joints. Another recommended place to shop in West Virginia is in Sutton. Here, visitors will find Poplar Forest, which sells items made by 200 skilled artists and craftsmen from the Central Appalachian Mountains. Visitors wanting to buy hand-blown glass will find the best selection of glassware, ornaments, and other items in Morgantown and Weston.
