Albuquerque International Sunport
New Mexico’s only true commercial airport is located just three miles south of downtown Albuquerque. It is the fastest way to reach New Mexico from anywhere else in America. Nearly six million passengers fly here each year, primarily visiting Santa Fe, Taos and Albuquerque itself. American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, United, and US Airways are the main carriers, with Phoenix the busiest route, followed by Denver, Dallas, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Atlanta. Southwest Airlines handles the majority of flights, but there are also commuter flights to airstrips in Gallup, Roswell, Farmington, and Silver City via Great Lakes Airlines and American Eagle.
The single terminal airport has three concourses and a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. Wi-Fi internet is accessible throughout and a nice selection of restaurants, brewpubs and gift shops await passengers inside the Departures area. A section of kiosks selling New Mexican arts, crafts and souvenirs is another feature of the terminal, and ATMs are available at several strategic points.
Ground transportation is provided by taxis and limousines into Albuquerque, while special long-distance shuttle vans run frequent trips north to Santa Fe (an hour away) and Taos (three hours away). Many arriving passengers prefer to rent a car from one of the nine rental firms on site, such as Budget, Avis and Enterprise. The airport is located just off Interstate 25 (north-south), which intersects with Interstate 40 (east-west) for easy driving anywhere in the state.
