Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport

More colloquially referred to as BWI, Maryland's main airport services the Baltimore and DC area, located about 10 miles from Baltimore and 32 miles from Washington DC. BWI is a hub for Southwest and Cape Air and handles about 20 million passengers a year. Roughly 15 airlines fly in and out of BWI, with the leading connections being domestic to Philadelphia, Chicago, Newark, and Boston. International destinations include scheduled flights to Toronto and London, and seasonal flights to Frankfurt and Aruba.

The airport offers plenty of shopping and dining options, including fast food chains such as Arby’s, McDonald’s and Dunkin Donuts. Other restaurants include the Silver Diner, Panda Express, Starbucks, and Subway. Shopping options include brand names such as the Body Shop, Brookstone and Brooks Brothers. There are also plenty of ATMs and currency exchange on hand.

In terms of transportation, visitors can opt to take taxi or airport vans (shared rides) into Maryland. There are also public and private buses, including the MTA. The BWI train station is located a mile from the airport and connects to the inter-city rail system which provides easy access to Baltimore and Washington DC. All major car rental companies have desks at BWI, including Avis, Budget and Enterprise.
