I had high expectations already for Moroccan vacation, especially after reading the reviews about the award-winning La Sultana Marrakesh luxury hotel, but I wasn’t expecting to stay in Moroccan heaven. Located in the heart of Medina, this charming hotel highlights the best of Morocco's culture while seamlessly providing the very best in modern comforts. Here are just a few reasons why every traveler to Morocco needs to enjoy it while they’re there.
In a country known for its hospitality, it’s no surprise that a friendly and helpful bellhop immediately greeted me the minute I rounded the corner to the property. As he led us to our room, I was immediately in awe of the beauty of the place; the light from the ceiling danced across hallways dripping in Morocco’s signature kaleidoscopic tile work and dozens of fresh roses perfumed the air. Our room and bathroom were equally as beautiful and the design detail was unreal. To top off our gorgeous room, there was a tiered plate full of Moroccan sweet treats waiting for us to enjoy.
I could have spent days in our lovely room, but we wanted to get out and explore the rest of the property. Since our riad was close to the pool, it was the first stop on our adventure. As we walked by the tranquil and stunning waters, I made a mental note to come back later and enjoy some quiet time there (and I did!). Then we took an elevator to the garden rooftop, which is where I really fell in love with La Sultana Marrakesh. The roof contains the gym, a snooker room (where I lost to my husband twice), a splash pool and a bar and restaurant. There are tables and lounging cabanas, making it the perfect place to chill. We loved it so much that on our final afternoon in Marrakesh, we decided ditch our original plans to sunbathe on the roof instead. The views are unbelievable, and the roof is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine at sunset.
Reason to Return
My only regret is that we didn’t have more time at La Sultana Marrakesh to participate in a cooking class. I still dream about the breakfast on the roof terrace – what a way to start the day! Fresh fruit, Moroccan pancakes, bread, cheese and meats, chia pudding – the list of options are endless. While I’m not sure if it is possible for me to cook like the chefs at the property, I would have been more than willing to give it a shot.
